My Dream Cast for The Hunger Games

Posted by Christina Cooper on March 31, 2011 at 1:17 PM

With Jennifer Lawrence already locked into the role of Katniss in ‘The Hunger Games,’ Loinsgate is expected to announce additional casting extremely soon. The movies release date is less than a year away, and with preproduction finished, it seem likely that they will begin filming shortly. I’m a big fan of the ‘Hunger Games,’ and honestly am pretty damn stoked about Lawrence being named as Katniss. Anyone who has seen ‘Winter’s Bone’ can attest to that. But now comes the tricky part. The rest of the cast is going to need to match Lawrence’s age. Below is my dream cast for ‘The Hunger Games.’

Peeta Mellark

Defined as one of the love interests in the book, Peeta represents everything that Katniss doesn’t have. A happy family, money, and also has been harboring a secret love for our protagonist since he was five. He’s chosen to be the male tribute for the 12th District, which means he works with Katniss, until they’ve reached the end. I always imagined Hunter Parrish as Peeta when I was reading the books.

He’s a man from the capital, and ends up being Katniss’s stylist while she prepares for the Hunger Games. He’s very witty, and is excellent at his job. For some reason I can only see Cillian Murphy playing this role.

She’s a badass tribute from District 11, and becomes an ally to Katniss as they get deeper into the games. Since Chloe Moretz has announced that she just booked a huge role, I’m assuming this may be what she’s referring to. (Other people think she may be Prim, but she’s too badass for the role). After seeing ‘Kick Ass,’ Moretz seems like a perfect fit for Rue.

The younger sister to Katniss. Katniss chooses to take her spot in the games, so that her sister doesn’t have to compete. I can honestly see Abigail Breslin pulling this off. And I think she’s at an age where she does look like she could be related to Jennifer Lawrence.

He’s been Katniss’s best friend for ages and he later becomes a love interest. (Don’t worry guys, this isn’t a Twilight whose team are you on thing!) The two have grown up together and go hunting together all the time. I think David Henrie would make a perfect Gale.

He’s Peeta and Katniss’s mentor, and actually won the ‘Hunger Games’ when he participated. He’s a drunk, but also has some great advice. Honestly, there is no one else that can play him besides Robert Downey Jr.

I agree with you on most of the people. But really Cooper you need to make Gale more handsome. I just did not picture him at all like the boy David Henrie. (I picture him darker, you know tanner, a little taller, and buffer.) David to me just seems to boyish, but hey its your blog :) Also for Cinna, I do not really picture Cillian Murphy as the role. I pictures Cinna in the book as sort of gay you know funny, loving, witty, you know the works. I mean come on he is a stylists.
P.S. I did not even know that they were making a Hunger Games movie. I am so glad you got those books for me because they were amazing and now I can not wait to see who the cast will be for the movie.

I agree with you except for Gale and Katniss ... And I have to admit that I'm so disappointed by all the final cast ... Sad
