After seeing the amazing first trailer, we all knew that Hunger Games was going to be spectacular. But I don'tt hink anyone could have forseen just how well the movie did this weekend. The Hunger Games made $152 domestically, while grabbing almost $60 million in foreign theaters.
These are crazy numbers!!! I remember reading them last week, and the experts were saying that this movie could make $130 million. The Hunger Games opened as the third highest movie ever for an opening weekend. Only Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 2 and The Dark Knight opened bigger. I thought that Hunger Games had a chance to open huge since them book has reached such a wide audience.
Harry Potter had a big audience, but I don't think that audience is quite as big as Hunger Game's. 40% of the audience was male, which is about 20% of a larger male force at the theaters than Twilight. The numbers from this weekend show that although The Hunger Games doesn't have a large international audience yet, as Lionsgate releases more films, the audience will grow. The movie opened similar to the first Harry Potter and Twilight movies, which can show that the movie will catch fire with audieneces abroad.
Did you go see Hunger Games this weekend?
