The road to the sale of 2012 Con tickets has begun. Yesterday Comic-Con updated their website and announced that member ID is now open. This is a brand new part of Comic Con's website. In order to purchase tickets in the upcoming months, the buyer (and all people they're buying tickets for) must have member IDs when they buy tickets.
Comic-Con is hoping that this system will make it more difficult for scalpers to purchase tickets. I'm not sure if this system is going to help with the thousands of people who all want Comic-Con tickets. If Comic-Con wants to help better their ticketing system, they should consider heading to ticketmaster instead of using smaller ticketing companies like Epic, who have earned infamous nicknames like epic failure because of the horrible ticket situation last year.
If you haven't signed up for a member ID, you still have plenty of time to do so before tickets go on sale. Member IDs must be created before February 28, 2012. I'm not sure when Comic-Con will start selling tickets, but I'm assuming that it will be after February 28.
We will keep you updated as soon as Comic-Con releases any information on actual ticket sales.
