Is Snyder's Superman Going to be ANOTHER Origin Story?

Posted by Christina Cooper on April 13, 2011 at 7:22 PM

Word broke this morning that Diane Lane, Superman's momma, was forced to read the script in a locked room for three hours, we knew just how serious Snyder is about keeping this script underwraps.  Lane said she spent three hours reading the script, and commented that its an origins story.

“I read the script under lock and key. I was locked in a room with the script and was only allowed three hours with it. I nailed it into my memory. I’m really excited. I’m really not allowed to talk much about it, I think, but it does cover the entire range of years, from infancy on.”

Hmm, this sounds like we've already seen it.  Superman: The Movie, spent a good chunk of that film showing Superman's origins, spanning from his birth on Krypton to becoming a member of the Kent family and embracing his powers in Metropolis.  And with the recent casting of Michael Shannon being cast as the evil General Zod, it seems like Hollywood has once again run out of ideas.  FIlmschoolrejects brings up the awesome point that most people know more about Superman's origins than they do about American history.  We all know he came from Krypton, was brought up in Smallville, and works in the Daily Planet with Lois Lane.

No one wants to watch Smallville: The Movie, especially when Snyder has promised us a fresh and modern take on Superman.  Maybe the origins part of the story will be short, and simply be a montage at the beginning.  I really hope this is what Snyder chooses to do, otherwise, this movie sounds like it's going to be the same as all the others we've seen.

How do you feel about the possibility of another Superman origin story?

im just excited to see HEnry Cavil's beautiful face and gorgeous bod on the big screen!! Also from all the secrecy it feels like at least if there is a good deal of time spent on the origins it will be from a new perspective/approach or at least something we havent seen or heard before
