Yes, you read that right! After months of wondering if Disney/Marvel would resign Joss Whedon for Avengers 2, news broke today that Joss has been resigned. He will be back in the directors chair and will also be writing the sequel. I'm actually so shocked that Disney did this. Many fans were nervous that Marvel wouldn’t offer Whedon enough money to come back, but it seems they understood just what Joss did for the franchise. I’m hoping they’ve locked him into some sort of executive producer/consultant to all upcoming Marvel movies.
Disney has also stated that Joss will be working on the live action Marvel TV show that has yet have a title or a plot. Many are thinking it will be dealing with the human side of the Avengers, maybe something along the lines of Item 47? I’m not sure, but I’m hoping it involves aspects of SHIELD and can maybe introduce some of the Avengers we have yet to see (Wasp?).
We don't have anything else to report, like the possibilities of other Avengers joining the crew, or who the Big Bad will be, but I'm guessing this will hold us over for now! Unfortunately, Avengers 2 is set to be released in summer 2015, which means we still have years to debate over who/what will be in the film. But in the meantime, rest easy nerds, Joss has our back.
