If the Internet had their way, the answer would be a resounding YES! But alas, this awesome rumor is based on pure speculation that Disney will re-release Avengers because they want to take the number one all time box-office spot. This three hour cut would be what Joss Whedon has been alluding to in interviews when he stated that his first assembly of the movie was 3 hours long!!
Nerds (such as myself) are losing sleep over the fact that there is another 45 minutes of Avengers footage that they haven't seen yet!! Joss Whedon has already stated that the extra footage will be made available in the Blu-ray release of the movie.
If the sources claiming that an extended cut of Avengers will be making its way into theaters are correct, then I'm assuming that we will be hearing official word from Marvel around the time for Comic-Con. Marvel is planning on having a much bigger presence at the pop-culture festival this year, since Disney is not having their usual D23 Expo. Last year Disney chose to have an Avengers panel there, instead of sending the gang back to SDCC. This news means that fans are probably going to get their first look at footage from Iron Man 3!!
Until Disney or Marvel officially confirm or deny that they are rereleasing Avengers, we can assume that all talk is strictly speculative. With only ONE MONTH (!!!!!!) until Comic-Con, news about panels/guests/events and autographs will slowly be announced. Check back for more SDCC updates!
